ndOffice Registry Settings

Modify the registry settings and values for various features of ndOffice. Registry values are automatically updated in the corresponding registry parameters if you change ndOffice Settings. Restore the default settings as necessary.

CAUTION: It is highly recommended to back up the registry keys before editing or modifying them.

Below you can see the list of the registry keys, their descriptions, and supported values available with the latest release.

Echo Folder Registry Settings

EchoingFolderPath registry

Values

Specify the location of the Echo folder path. The specified location of the Echo folder path can also be viewed or updated here: ndOffice Settings dialog > Account tab > Echo Path

Values

Specify the location of the ndOffice installer path.

EchoRetention registry

 Values

Specify the Echo retention period for storing documents in the Echo folder. When the specified period of time expires, documents stored in the Echo folder will be deleted.

ndOffice Settings dialog > Account tab > Retention Period

EchoRetention setting does not appear in the registry until the user manually enters the valid numeric value. The ndOffice Echo retention settings are controlled from ND Web via Settings in Internet Explorer with ActiveX. Echoing can be enabled or disabled here, and the retention period can be set in terms of the number of days. Editing the registry directly will reflect changes in the above setting on IE for the ND web service.

Any other positive integer value that specifies the number of days.

BackupRetention registry

 Values

Configure for how long documents will remain in the Backup folder.

5 (minimum value)

Any other integer value greater than 5. Values less than 5 are automatically changed to 5.

Stamping Location Registry Settings

StampingLocationString registry

Values

Specify the location the document ID will be inserted. ID stamp can be inserted only in Microsoft Word.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > ID Stamp tab > Location drop-down menu)

 

  • None - No Doc ID stamping (None is the default unless otherwise specified)
  • EachPage - Footer of each page
  • ExceptFirst - Footer of each page except the first
  • LastPage - Only the last page of the document

DontShowStampConflictDialog registry

Values

Specify whether the prompts about applying the document ID stamps appear or not.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > ID Stamp tab > Don't prompt me when applying ID stamp to documents checkbox).

  • True - The ND prompt asking the user if they want to change the location of the ID stamping will be repressed.
  • False - The ND prompt asking the user if they want to change the location of the ID stamping will not be repressed. Default is False.

OnConflictDefaultBehavior registry

Values

When stamping conflict occurs, the dialog that allows a user either to continue with changing stamping location in the document or to cancel stamping change appears.

If a user selects the Apply to future documents checkbox and clicks Continue, the OnConflictDefaultBehavior setting appears in the registry with the Resolve value and on the ID Stamp tab of ndOffice Settings dialog the Don't prompt me when applying ID stamp to documents checkbox becomes selected. So, when in the future stamping conflicts occur, stamping will always be changed to the one specified in Settings without any confirmations.

When a user selects the Apply to future documents checkbox and then clicks Cancel, the OnConflictDefaultBehavior setting appears in the registry with the DoNothing value and on the ID Stamp tab of ndOffice Settings dialog the Don't prompt me when applying ID stamp to documents checkbox becomes selected. So, when in the future stamping conflicts occur, stamping will always be preserved and the location selected in Settings will be ignored without any confirmations.

Proxy Registry Settings

Host registry

Values

Specify the host to be used.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Network tab > Host dropdown menu).

ProxyOption registry

Values

Specify the proxy to be used.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Network tab > All options under the Proxy group box).

  • Automatic - Will use default proxy server from the browser settings.
  • NoProxy - Will not use a proxy server.  (This value is default)
  • Manual - Must use the ProxyHost and ProxyPort registry values.

ProxyHost registry

Values

Include the IP address or DNS name of the proxy server. If the ProxyOption is set to manual, but the combination of ProxyHost and ProxyPort is unreachable, ndOffice will not be able to function. If no IP address is identified, ndOffice will use the default proxy server from the browser settings.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Network tab > Host dropdown menu).

Values

Specify the port of the proxy server.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Network tab > Port text box).

Microsoft Outlook Registry Settings

OutlookAttachNavigation registry

Values

Specify the default location opened for attaching documents.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Navigation tab > All options under the Outlook Attach group box).

DeleteEmailsFromOutlook registry

Values

When a user adds the DeleteEmailsFromOutlook setting to the HKCU node in the registry with the False value, an email is not deleted from Outlook after successful saving.

When a user adds the DeleteEmailsFromOutlook setting to the HKCU node in the registry with the True value, an email is deleted from Outlook after successful saving.

ShowEmailsinAC registry

Values

By adding the ShowEmailsInAC value and setting it to False, the user will no longer see emails in the Activity Center. This can be set in HKLM as well for the entire machine.

ShowExtOutlookFeatures registry

Values

This string value can be added to the HKCU or HKLM hive. If a user modifies this registry to False, the following features in Outlook will be suppressed:

• The ND Send group (contains Send & File).

• The Suggested Locations and Private Access button on the ND Save group. The ND Save button will still be there and Suggested Locations will still be in the dialog.

• ND COLUMN – if this value was already displayed from an earlier version, the user must remove it manually.

Additionally, when deploying the above value as False, it is recommended to set a string value of PromptFileEmails to False in the same HKCU or HKLM location.

NOTE: If ndMail is installed, the ShowExtOutlookFeatures and PromptFileEmails registry entries are added to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NetVoyage\NetDocuments hive with False values because these features are replaced in ndMail with other features. These settings can be safely removed should the user desire full ndOffice functionality despite the presence of ndMail but may be confusing for the user.

PromptFileEmails registry

Values

Set the appropriate value to prompt or not prompt to file the outgoing messages.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Other tab > the Prompt to file the outgoing messages checkbox).

NOTE: If ndMail is installed, the ShowExtOutlookFeatures and PromptFileEmails registry entries are added to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NetVoyage\NetDocuments hive with False values because these features are replaced in ndMail with others. These settings can be safely removed should the user desire full ndOffice functionality despite the presence of ndMail but may be confusing for the user.

Values

Specify which location sent documents will be filed by default.

OutlookFilterMode registry

Values

Identify the search method for scanning the Sent Items folder.

OutlookFilterItemsCountThreshold registry

Values

Set the maximum number of items that users can check.

Registry value type: REG_DWORD (DWORD (32-bit) value)

Note: This registry works ONLY with the Iterate setting.

  • A number greater than 0
  • Default is 1000

OutlookFilterItemsAgeThreshold registry

Values

Set the maximum age (number of days an item exists) of items that users can check. This registry works with all search methods.

Registry value type: REG_DWORD (DWORD (32-bit) value).

DropdownAttachBehavior registry

Values

Specify the attachment option for the selected document in the Attach drop-down list of the Outlook ribbon.

AttachButtonBehavior registry

Values

Specify how Attach appears in the Outlook ribbon.
Registry value type: REG_SZ (string value).

AttachDropdownItemsCount registry

Values

Set the number of documents that appear in the Attach drop-down list. 
Registry value type: REG_SZ (string value).

OutlookScalingEnabled registry

Values

This registry turns on/off the scaling of the ndOffice Outlook Panels.

Setting this registry to False helps you to avoid errors when selecting the ndAttach button. These errors are related to scaling on the monitors with a resolution of more than 4K and scaling of 150%, namely the lack of SetThreadDpiAwarenessContext in user32.dll.

Automatic Update Registry Settings

AutoUpdateEnabled registry

 Values

Set the appropriate value to turn on or make the automatic update for ndOffice unavailable.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Account tab > Disable auto updates checkbox).

The AutoUpdateEnabled registry value in the registry is set to True if the Disable auto updates checkbox is cleared on the Account tab of the ndOffice Settings dialog.

The AutoUpdateEnabled registry value in the registry is set to False if the Disable auto updates checkbox is selected on the Account tab of the ndOffice Settings dialog.

If the AutoUpdateEnabled registry value is set to False, the Prompt me for automatic updates checkbox becomes unavailable on the Account tab of the ndOffice Settings dialog.

PromptForAutomaticUpdates registry

 Values

Set the appropriate value to turn on or disable the prompts for automatic updates of ndOffice.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Account tab > Prompt me for automatic updates checkbox).

If the Disable auto updates checkbox is selected on the Account tab of the ndOffice Settings dialog, the Prompt me for automatic updates checkbox becomes unavailable.

AlternativeUpdateURLEnabled registry

 Values

Users can choose whether to redirect the update check to their own specified appversions.xml file.

  • True–ndOffice will check for updates automatically.

Navigation Registry Settings

Values

Specify the default location for opening documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Adobe.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Navigation tab > All options under Word, Excel, PowerPoint Open group boxes).

Values

Specify whether the List view or Summary view will always open by default. The user can change it in the ndOffice Open, Save, or Attach dialog.

If an admin did not add this setting to HKLM, changes will be saved. When the user changes the workspace view to another one and closes the dialog, the registry setting will be changed to the one that the user set in the dialog.

If the value set in the WorkspaceDefaultView registry is invalid or the registry itself has been deleted, a workspace is opened in Summary view, and the user’s last choice is remembered.

Notification Registry Settings

NotificationDocumentsNumber registry

Values

Specify the number of documents to be displayed on the Activity List.

This setting can be changed either via registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Slider on the Activity List tab).

100 (this setting is default)

UploadingNotificationMode registry

Values

Set the frequency of ndOffice notifications.

0 – Only a check-in notification message appears (this setting is default).

1 – Notification messages about the document upload and check-in appear.

2 – Notification message about the document upload progress appears and pops up at least every 7 seconds until it has been successfully uploaded. After that, a notification message about check-in appears.

OfflineModeNotification registry

Values

If a user sets the OfflineModeNotification registry to the None value, then no notifications about the lost Internet connection will appear. If the OfflineModeNotification registry is set to Both, then the user sees notifications about both the loss and restoration of the Internet connection.

CheckOutNotification registry

Values

Set the appropriate value to show or not to show the notification when you check out a document.

This setting can be changed either via the CheckOutNotification registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Notifications tab > the Check out checkbox).  This checkbox is selected by default.

Values

Set the appropriate value to show or not to show the notification when you start to upload a document.

This setting can be changed either via the UploadStartNotification registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog >Notifications tab > the Upload start checkbox).

UploadInProgressNotification registry

Values

Set the appropriate value to display or not display the progress bar when you upload a document.

This setting can be changed either via the UploadInProgressNotification registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Notifications tab > the Upload in progress checkbox).  This checkbox is unavailable if the Upload start checkbox is not selected.

Values

Set the appropriate value to display or not display a notification if the document upload is successful.

Values

Set the appropriate value to display or not display a notification when you upload the document. This checkbox is selected by default.

This setting can be changed either via the UploadSuccessfulNotification registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog >Notifications tab > the Check-in checkbox). This checkbox is selected by default.

Values

This registry setting determines how long a document should not be accessed in order to silently check it in.

Default - 30 days; minimum - 2 days.

OpenedDocumentsWarningThreshold registry

Values

This registry setting determines how long a document should not be accessed in order to show a warning. Default - 1 day; minimum - 1 day. The value must be less than the one set in the OpenedDocumentsCheckInThreshold registry.

OpenedDocumentsCheckInterval registry

Values

This registry setting determines how often the regular check should be performed. Default - 60 minutes; minimum - 15 minutes; The value must be less than the one set in the OpenedDocumentsWarningThreshold registry.

Values

This registry setting determines if the warning about currently open documents appears.
Note: If the value is False, silent check-in is still supported.

Values

Set the appropriate value to show or not show the warning message about opening an unofficial version of the document.

This setting can be changed either via the WarnIfNotOfficialVersion registry or from the graphical user interface (ndOffice Settings dialog > Other tab > the Warn if selected version is not official checkbox).

IP Court Filing Registry Settings

ConvertToPdf registry

Values

After activating the IP Court Filing feature, users, lawyers, can go to any website that has an Attach or Browse button in Chrome or Firefox and then click that button to open the File Upload dialog.

At the bottom of the File Upload dialog, there is the Convert document to DPF checkbox that is selected by default.

OpenAsNewVersion registry

Values

After activating the IP Court Filing feature, users, in particular lawyers, can go to any website that has an Attach or Browse button in Chrome or Firefox, and then click that button to open the File Upload dialog.

At the bottom of the File Upload dialog, there is the Save the exported document as a new version checkbox that is selected by default.

ProcessMonitor registry

Values

This is typically used for Citrix customers to be able to turn off IPCourtFiling for several users of a machine or to enable it only for certain users. It is found under the "machine override" for ndOffice user settings under HKLM.

You can install IP/Court filing and delete that key in HKLM and add the key to any user that wants IP court filing to their HKCU.

Other ndOffice Registry Settings

TracingEnabled registry

Values

Enable trace logs that will provide detailed information about problems users might encounter during their work with ndOffice.

To view logs, the user needs to go to Activity Center, click the Settingsicon, point to Help, and then click Report a problem. In the Report a problem dialog, the user needs to click View Logs. The Logs folder is located at the following path: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\NetDocuments\Logs.

ndOfficeHandoff registry

Values

When the Adobe integrations are installed by a user with administrative rights, the ndOfficeHandoff setting with the value pdf in is installed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\NetVoyage\
NetDocuments) and on first use is copied to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NetVoyage\NetDocuments.

The ndOfficeHandoff setting is deleted from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\NetVoyage\
NetDocuments when the user uninstalls ndOffice or the Adobe integration but the corresponding copied setting and value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NetVoyage\NetDocuments must be manually removed.

RetainProfileAttributes registry

Values

The RetainProfileAttributes registry controls whether ndOffice remembers attributes that users set when saving previously to Suggested Locations. The RetainAndShow value remembers the attributes and gives the user the possibility to change them.

When a user saves an email, the Save dialog appears with these values, so a user can easily replace them with others, if needed. The SilentSave value retains the values, shows them in the hover tip, and applies them when saving silently.

For the last two values, users can hover over the location to preview what values will be applied. If users select a new workspace, they will be also able to hover over to see if there are values that will be applied, and then click Edit to add new ones.

ShowCompareDocuments registry

Values

The user can turn off the ND Compare feature by adding the ShowCompareDocuments setting with the False value to HKCU\Software\NetVoyage\NetDocuments.

CheckDisabledAddins registry

Values

Set the appropriate value to track or not to track whether ndOffice add-ins have been disabled. For use in conjunction with group policy which forces add-ins to always be enabled.

LoginRepoID registry

Values

For a firm that is using Federated Identity to allow users to authenticate to NetDocuments via the organization’s identity provider, one can set the LoginRepoID registry key to specify the repository GUID. ndOffice will use that in the login process.

The HKLM\Software\NetVoyage\NetDocuments hive serves as an override to the HKCU\Software\NetVoyage\NetDocuments location when reading this value pair.

The value for this is the repository GUID, for example, CA-12ABC780.

StoreRefreshToken registry

Values

If set to False, ndOffice does not store a refresh token. If you are not passing the SessionTimeout claim through Federated Identity, users will be logged out after the default 90 minutes of inactivity.

Values

If set to True, emails appear in the Recent Documents list. The default value is False.

Values

Change the language of ndOffice. Note that you need to restart ndOffice after applying the registry setting.

WordAllowBackgroundSaving registry

Values

If set to False, ndOffice disables background saving in Word. The default value is True. We recommend only disable this functionality if Microsoft Word freezes with background saving enabled.

Values

Determine if the original Word document is closed when a new version is created from it with a different extension, which opens in a different application (for example, .pdf).

LogtoSplunk registry

Values

Log ndOffice errors and other information in Splunk.

If set to True, such events are logged to Splunk:

  • ndOffice Outlook add-in loaded:
      • The time that ndOffice Outlook add-in took to load.
  • Local backup file created:
      • Envelope ID
      • Document ID
      • Version number
      • File type (document or attachment)
      • Attachment type
  • Failed to delete document shell after the unsuccessful upload:
      • Envelope ID
      • Version number
      • Failure reason (unauthenticated, connection issue, etc.)
  • Unofficial version created on the server-side as a result of the upload:
      • Envelope ID
      • Created version number
      • Source version number
  • Unhandled .Net exception thrown:
      • Serialized exception object (same as one that written to the local log files).

All messages sent to Splunk from ndOffice, in addition to the data described above, contain the following data:

  • Severity ('Error', 'Information', and 'Analytics')
  • Date and time when the message was created
  • Name and ID of the process from which message was generated
  • Name and ID of the thread from which message was generated
  • Hash string of the NetDocuments user-ID
  • User-agent string (same as ndOffice sends with any other REST API request)
  • Encrypted Windows User SID
  • Encrypted NetBIOS name of the local computer

PerformanceMetricsEnabled registry

Values

Send performance metrics information from ndOffice to Splunk.

If set to True, various events related to document downloads/uploads and have the same data structure:

  • Action – describes download/upload phase (e.g. Download received, Download completed, Document opened, etc.)
  • Document ID
  • Document version
  • Envelope ID
  • The Echoing Client (ndOffice.exe) was launched at the time event was raised.
  • Place where the event occurred (e.g. Activity Center, Open dialog, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Date and time when the event was raised in the format of UTC ticks.
  • Repository ID.

All messages sent to Splunk from ndOffice, in addition to the data described above, contain the following data:

  • Severity ('Error', 'Information', and 'Analytics')
  • Date and time when the message was created
  • Name and ID of the process from which message was generated
  • Name and ID of the thread from which message was generated
  • Hash string of the NetDocuments user-ID
  • User-agent string (same as ndOffice sends with any other REST API request)
  • Encrypted Windows User SID
  • Encrypted NetBIOS name of the local computer

EnableAnalyticsLogging registry

Values

If set to True, whenever ndOffice gets a new access token for a user (via a login form, or silently, using refresh token), ndOffice will send a count of the documents in the user’s echo folder and hardware parameters (RAM size, hard drive total capacity and number of CPU logical and physical cores). Hardware parameters will be sent only if they have changed since they were sent last time.

Also, if set to True and you open or download a document, ndOffice sends the following info:

  • Reason for opening the document (e.g. Checkout for editing, opening as a new version, or attaching to email, etc.)
  • The source of the open request (e.g. Open dialog, ndClick, Extensibility, etc.)
  • How the document was opened (Downloaded, opened from the Echo folder, or downloaded because the copy in the Echo folder is out of date)
  • Document ID
  • Document version number
  • Is the open version official
  • Is echoing allowed by cabinet settings
  • Echo retention period
  • Document statuses (Archived, Locked, Signed, etc.)
  • Whether the document version was cached and is it out of date
  • True (this value is default)
  • False

SecurityTemplatesVisibility registry

Values

Display the Security Template drop-down in the Save As dialog so that users can edit the document access while saving.

When set to False, users can save documents with the default access. 

Note: Users can still modify the document access after it has been saved.

For documents with the Track changes option enabled, this registry sets preserving markup of document edits when converting it to PDF.

  • 3 is default (enabled).
  • 2 is soft disabled.
  • 1 or 0 is hard disabled.

DataBaseFolderPath registry

Values

Registry setting to control database location.

TurnOnPDC registry

Values

Set the True value to make the All Synced Items tab in the Activity Center visible.

NOTE: To make the All Synced Items tab visible, you also need to set the EchoRetention greater than 0 (1 is the minimum number of retention days).

Command-Line Switches

ndOfficeSetup.msi

ADDLOCAL (Optional): Define which Microsoft Office applications should have the ndOffice
integration installed.

Available values:

  • ALL
  • Word
  • Excel
  • PowerPoint
  • Outlook
  • AdobeAcrobatIntegration
  • AdobeReaderIntegration
  • IPCourtFiling

If this switch is not included, the default is ALL.

If you use multiple values, separate each with a comma (no space before/after the comma). Capitalization does count. If it is not exactly as listed above, the install will not complete successfully.

Example:
msiexec /i c:\ndofficeinstall\ndofficesetup.msi ADDLOCAL=Word,PowerPoint
