Installing the NetDocuments Chrome Extension

The latest NetDocuments Browser Extension can be installed independently from the Chrome Store, but requires both ndClick 1.4 (or later) and ndOffice 2.6 (or later) to function properly.

Install With ndClick

The ndClick installer automatically installs the NetDocuments Chrome Extension. Once ndClick is successfully installed, close and restart Chrome for the extension to be activated.

When Chrome restarts, the following prompt will appear:

Select the Enable extension button to enable the NetDocuments Chrome Extension.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If the NetDocuments Chrome Extension is installed by ndClick or through the registry, it is considered by Chrome to be an external extension. Once an external extension is installed, it should only be managed through the registry. If you remove the extension through the browser, the extension is then considered ‘blocked’ by Chrome. See Troubleshooting the Chrome Extension below for additional information.

Install From the Chrome Web Store

Although the NetDocuments Chrome Extension can be installed with the ndClick installation, it can also be installed directly from the Chrome Web Store.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The NetDocuments Chrome Extension requires the following additional software to work properly: ndClick (version 1.4 or later) and ndOffice (version 2.6 or later).

  1. Go to the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Search for NetDocuments (or follow this link).
  3. Select the Add to Chrome button in the upper-right corner.

Install Using Registry Keys

Chrome Extensions can be installed through registry keys. This allows Administrators to enable extensions without requiring you to install them from the Chrome Store.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If the Chrome Extension is installed by ndClick or through the registry, it is considered by Chrome to be an External Extension. Once an External Extension is installed, it should only be managed through the registry. If a user removes the extension through the browser, the extension is then considered ‘blocked’ by Chrome. See Troubleshooting the Chrome Extension below for additional information.

Pre-install Managed Websites

When the NetDocuments Chrome Extension is installed, no websites are connected to NetDocuments. This action is generally accomplished by each user on their various computers. However, you may wish to pre-install connections to specific websites (i.e. court websites, government websites, etc.) so that users don’t have to perform this action on each computer.

NOTE: Connecting to NetDocuments simply means that the Browse or Upload buttons on these sites will launch the ndOpen dialog to select a document in NetDocuments for uploading.

To pre-install specific websites, you must first connect the sites to NetDocuments on a single computer. After installing the NetDocuments Chrome Extension on a computer:

  1. Open Chrome and enable the Extension.
  2. Navigate to each of the desired websites and connect them to NetDocuments.

This will place the connection information in a folder which can be distributed to your users.

When you have connected the desired websites, installation files and information about the connected sites is stored in the following locations:
