ChatLink for Microsoft Teams

ChatLink is an integration included in NetDocuments PLAN that connects Microsoft Teams to NetDocuments. ChatLink allows users to manually or programmatically:

  • Add the Documents tab to a channel in Teams
  • Add the ndThread tab to a channel in Teams

Installing ChatLink for Microsoft Teams 

To install ChatLink:

  1. Open Microsoft Teams and in the lower-left corner select the Apps icon. On the Apps page, select Upload a custom app.

  1. In the Open dialog box, navigate to the ChatLink package and select Open.

After installing the app, Teams will ask what in what O365 team or conversation you will want to use ChatLink. 

Adding the Documents Tab

  1. You must add the NetDocuments app to an O365 Team in Teams. Next to the O365 team name, select the ellipses (...)>Manage team. Find and add the NetDocuments app.
  2. Select a channel in the O365 team and select + on the tab bar to add a new tab. Select the NetDocuments App.

If you have not authenticated previously, you must sign in. Make sure you select the correct NetDocuments Service.

  1. Select the type of tab you want to add. Then, choose Documents and select a repository. If you are only connected to one repository, you will not need to make this selection.

Select a Workspace. You can search for a Workspace or select from one of your Recents.

  1. Select Save. A new tab will be created in the channel that is linked to the workspace in NetDocuments. Users have full access to all of the features and search. They can check out any document.

You can optionally select the Restricted View option when setting up the Documents tab. Restricted View presents only the files, folders, and filters in the workspace. Files may be checked out, but other functions and further navigation are not available. 

Adding the ndThread Tab

  1. You must add the NetDocuments app to an O365 Team in Teams. Next to the O365 team name, select the ellipses (...)>Manage team. Find and add the NetDocuments app.
  2. Select a channel in the O365 team and select + on the tab bar to add a new tab. Select the NetDocuments App.

A new tab will be created in the channel embedding workspace threads directly into Microsoft Teams.
