What's New in ndMail 1.4

ndMail 1.4 continues streamlining your email management. A major focus of this release is the performance in Outlook, particularly specific versions and bitness of Outlook. This release includes numerous bug fixes summarized below.

Highlighted changes

Folder Mapping for Delegated/Shared Mailboxes

Note: This feature requires Folder Mapping 1.0.7025 (installed by default with the ndMail 1.4 exe installer).

If you have access to other users' mailbox, you can now map folders on their behalf. Mapping these folders works the same as mapping any other folders. Only the mapping creator can edit it. Note that both the mailbox owner and the delegate must have this version of Folder Mapping installed and running. Registry settings that control this functionality are outlined below.

Drag Attachments to the Navigation Tree Panel

Note: This feature requires ndOffice 2.5.

With this release, you can drag both email messages and their attachments to the Navigation Tree panel. After you drag the attachment to the Navigation Tree, the ndOffice Save dialog box prompts you to fill in the required profile fields (if applicable to the location that you file to).

Global Filing Indicator (GFI) Gets Set by the ndSave Button

Note: This feature requires ndOffice 2.5.

When you save an email with the ndSave button (ndOffice) or drag an email to the ndMail Navigation Tree panel, the GFI is now set immediately after saving. Previously, the GFI was set only after selecting that email again after it has been imported/indexed.

Reply/Reply All/Forward Filed Items

Note: This feature requires ndOffice 2.5.

When viewing filed items in NetDocuments panels in Outlook, you can right-click and immediately Reply/Reply All/Forward that message without opening it first. You can also access these options from the ndOffice Activity Center.

Prompt users to map new Outlook folders

Note: This feature requires Folder Mapping 1.0.7025 (installed by default with the ndMail 1.4 .exe installer).

When creating a new folder in Outlook, you are now prompted to map that folder to NetDocuments immediately upon creation. This is optional and can be disabled via a registry setting (listed at the bottom of this article). You will see the following dialog box when creating a folder in Outlook now.

Performance Improvements

ndMail 1.4 provides additional memory management improvements when drafting emails and navigating in Outlook.

Additionally, with ndOffice 2.5, we optimized interactions between ndMail and ndOffice to improve the speed of switching between Outlook folders.

Additional Improvements & Fixes

  • If you do not use the Reading pane, the Prediction pane now defaults to the bottom of the items list. For users who have a mix of Outlook folders with the reading pane and some without, there is a registry setting available to disable this functionality if desired. See below for details.
  • Your default cabinet now appears as the open tab after the first launch of ndMail/Outlook.
  • You can now add email-related columns to the search views in ndOffice/ndMail (requires ndOffice 2.5).
  • When forwarding a message you now see the ndAttach button (requires ndOffice 2.5).
  • The .eml files now appear with the same icon as .msg files (requires ndOffice 2.5).
  • Improved auto-refresh for predictions.

Fixed issues:

  • Fixed an issue where certain add-ins (e.g. Adobe Send & Track) caused a conflict when drafting a message where predictions would not be refreshed in real time.
  • Fixed an issue with displaying multiple login dialogs if you launched Outlook without being logged in to ndMail/ndOffice.
  • Fixed an issue where navigating to Sent Items and selecting a recently sent email would remove the GFI.
  • Fixed an issue when using the workspace picker for closed workspaces failed while attaching a file to an email message. (requires ndOffice 2.5)
  • Fixed an issue where saving an email with a very long notes field with the ndSave button failed. (requires ndOffice 2.5)
  • Fixed an issue with later versions of MS Outlook 2016/O365 that prevented items from being viewed in the preview in Outlook (requires ndOffice 2.5).
  • Fixed an issue when saving an email using the ndSave button with many recipients failed. (requires ndOffice 2.5)
