ndThread Update Notes

16 August 2019

  • The "Upload Document" action is now available for reply messages.
  • Text can be made bold or italics using CTRL-b and CTRL-i, respectively. (On the Mac, Command-b an Command-i.)
  • When an image is added to a thread or direct message, a preview of the image is displayed during the profiling process.
  • Emojis are no longer rendered inside codeblocks.
  • Bug fixes and performance enhancements.

24 July 2019

  • A user’s ability to manage how and when they are made aware of new activity in ndThread has been significantly enhanced.
    • A user can now mute both types of ndThread awareness: push notifications and unread indicators. (However, unread indicators for @mentions and direct messages cannot be suppressed.) When muting is applied, a user can configure only how push notifications will work for @mentions (and direct messages at the user-account level). Conversation preference settings are not relevant when muting is applied.
    • A user can configure awareness preferences at the workspace and thread levels, not only at the user-account level. This allows a user to set their account-wide default awareness preferences, but then override those settings for particular workspaces (in which case those preferences will apply by default to every thread in those workspaces) and for individual threads.
  • The conversation preferences have been moved to the same preferences dialog as push notifications.
  • In any of these locations: on the Documents page, when selecting a document to insert into a thread and when adding a new document, the contents of the workspace are shown in alphabetical order by default, with containers always listed first.
  • The external sharing indicator is shown for documents where applicable.
  • For listed documents, the “Edit” hover icon has been replaced with an “Open” icon. The Open icon which will open a new browser tab that displays the selected document in the NetDocuments web interface. From there the user can take any permissible action on the document.
  • Numerous bug fixes

27 June 2019

  • A new setting has been added (accessible from the new "Conversation Preferences" action on the main menu) that governs whether the user is made aware that conversations contain unread replies. By default, ndThread will always indicate when there are unread replies. By changing this setting a user will be shown that a conversation has unread replies only when the user is "participating" in the conversation.
  • A new checkbox icon will appear in the main thread pane for a conversation that contains unread replies. Clicking on this will mark the conversation as read. This icon is also accessible on mobile apps.
  • After a user types 3 characters in the message field, hint text will be displayed below the message field that describes how to add formatting to the message.
  • A user can choose to apply the optional "Dark Mode" styling using a toggle from the main menu.
  • Various bug fixes.
Desktop App 1.0.40

7 June 2019

  • For Windows only: For clients that use Federated Identity, a new LoginRepoID registry key can be used by bypass the regular login page and take a user directly to the organization's login page. The value of the LoginRepoID key should be a client's repository ID (including the CA- prefix). This key can be added to either HKCU\Software\NetDocuments\ndThread or HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\NetDocuments\ndThread. The HKLM location will override the HKCU location. LoginRepoID is a REG_SZ type key.
  • The application will display a Certificate Trust Dialog box when a site is secured by a self-signed certificate, asking the user to approve the certificate. Once approved, the application will store the certificate in the application local storage and will not ask the user again. The certificate will be removed from local storage when it expires.

Desktop App 1.0.38 (Windows)

4 April 2019

Enhanced the Windows version of the Desktop app in several ways:

  • Silent installation is now possible using this command:  ndThread-#.#.##.exe /S
  • Prevent the app from being added to the Windows auto run  (this only applies if used during the initial installation) by adding this registry setting: In Computer\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ WOW6432Node\NetDocuments\ndThread, add "AutoRun" as a 32bit REG_DWORD with a value of "0".  Leaving out this registry setting or setting it to "1" will keep ndThread in the Windows auto run list.
  • Prevent an ndThread shortcut from being created (this only applies if used during the initial installation) by adding this registry setting: In Computer\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ WOW6432Node\NetDocuments\ndThread, add "CreateUserShortCut" as a 32bit REG_DWORD with a value of "0". Leaving out this registry setting or setting it to "1" will create the shortcut.
  • Configure the default host that ndThread will connect to (US/Vault, EU or AU) by adding this registry setting: In Computer\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ WOW6432Node\NetDocuments\ndThread, add "SelectedRegion" as a REG_SZ key with a value of "United States", "Europe" or "Australia".  This default host setting can be added after ndThread has been installed, but the user will need to Change Service (if they had logged in previously), quit the app and restart.

  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and performance enhancements.

(On the AppStore and GooglePlay, the ndThread mobile apps will be numbered 1.5.0.)

  • The Join Workspaces dialog will automatically show up to 25 of a user's recent workspaces to make it easy for the user to find workspaces they want to join.
  • Multiple join and leave activity for the same thread in the same period of time will be shown as a single post.
  • When an internal user joins a workspace and is added to every public thread in that workspace, a user-joined post will be added to every thread.
  • Numerous bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Desktop App 1.0.32

30 Nov 2018

  • Added support for a new registry key (Windows) and plist key (Mac) that will stop the desktop application from checking for updates and therefore the user will not be notified.  The key is called "CheckForUpdates".
  • This key will not be added by the application but instead must be added manually by a user or through automation.  On Windows this registry setting (a DWORD) must be added at:  HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\NetDocuments\ndThread. On the Mac, this setting must be added to the /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/ com.netdocuments.ndthread.plist file. A value of 0 will suppress notifications and a value of 1 will display them.  If there is no such key, notifications will be enabled.
  • If the key is configured not to check for updates, the user may still click on "Check for Updates" and it will show the user the currently installed version of the application and the most recent version (if different), to allow the user to determine that an update is available.  However, the user will not be able to update the software on their own.

1.1

24 Sept 2018

  • External users can be given access to ndThread content. If external users are members of the cabinet where direct messages are stored, then internal users can initiate direct messages that include external users. Also, if external users have access to a NetDocuments workspace, they can be invited to the ndThread workspace and given access to and participate in threads. Note that external users must always be invited to workspaces and threads by an internal user; they cannot self-join. External users can also access document annotations.  Internal users are warned when external users have access to content.
    • In those rare cases where a user has access to multiple NetDocuments repositories that has ndThread enable, the user will see a repository selector, to allow them to limit the thread and direct message content to a single repository.  All workspace and user lookups and searches performed will also be limited to the selected repository.
  • Individual workspace threads and direct messages can manually be exported to CSV or PDF.
  • The ability to delete a thread (limited to the thread creator or a Cabinet Administrator). The Team thread cannot be deleted.
  • The ability to rename a thread (limited to the thread creator or a Cabinet Administrator). The Team thread cannot be renamed.
  • When the user does not have an internet connection, access to ndThread is blocked ensure that there is no loss of data. The user is informed that they do not have an internet connection.
  • Notification preferences have been updated to provide an option for email notifications not to be suppressed when the related message has been accessed.
  • The business rules for when notifications are suppressed, based on the ndThread application being opened, have been softened, so that notifications are less likely to be suppressed.
  • The message shown when a document is added or referenced in a thread has been updated.
  • In the list of direct messages, where we show the last message, the list indicates whether the last message came from you or another user.
