Managing ndSync and Mobile Apps

Administrators can access the ndSync Policies and Device Management page from the Repository Administration page. This page is used to manage not only the ndSync application installed on PCs and Macs, but also the NetDocuments mobile apps on iOS and Android devices.

Removal of Synced Content

As an Administrator, you can decide what happens to a user's synced documents when he/she is removed from the repository:

(Content that has been taken offline on a mobile app is always removed when a user is removed from a repository.)

Enabling ndSync

In the section entitled "Computer Access", you can enable ndSync.  ndSync must be enabled in order for users to sync the repository's content using ndSync, or else content from your repository cannot be synced via ndSync. By default, this is set to "Do not allow ndSync":

If ndSync is enabled, you can choose to restrict deletions made on a user's local device from being applied to the server.  You can read more about how this works here.

Enabling Mobile Apps

In the section entitled "Mobile App Access," you can enable access to the repository via the NetDocuments mobile apps.  (The setting in this section does not have any impact on ndSync, which is enabled or disabled separately in the section mentioned above.)  By default this is set to "Do not allow any NetDocuments app".  There are three categories of NetDocuments mobile apps:

  1. The regular version (which exists for both iOS and Android)
  2. The EMM version (which exists for both iOS and Android)
  3. The Blackberry version (which exists only for iOS)

There are three ways to enable mobile access to a repository:

  1. By any of the three types of mobile apps
  2. Only by the EMM version of the mobile apps
  3. Only by the Blackberry version of the mobile app

If you choose to allow only the EMM version, there will be an optional security code setting available, which is described in more detail here.

List of Devices

At the bottom of the page is a table listing all the devices that have ndSync or the mobile apps installed:

The Administrator can choose to have anyone notified when a user connects a new device with ndSync or the mobile apps by entering one or more email addresses here. The recipient will receive an email with the following information:

A new device was registered for use with [app type] by <user name>.

Device information:

    Name: <name of device>

    Device Type: <operating system>

    Software Version: x.xx.x

Administrators can manage user's access to these devices:

Suspend - This only applies to ndSync.  This will suspend the device from being synced. It can be resumed again at any time.

Remove - This applies to both types of apps.  For ndSync, this will suspend the device from being synced.  For both types of apps, it will disconnect the app from the repository and remove the device from the list.
