NetDocuments Update Process



NetDocuments moved to a continuous improvement development cycle, with refreshes to the platform approximately every two weeks. We generally release these refreshes on Thursdays, and the updates are available on the beta servers the Monday prior to the official release.

As new refreshes appear on the beta servers, we update and publish the following article to notify subscribers of the planned changes and expected release date. Additionally, when the refresh is officially released into production, the article is updated to confirm the release.

To keep informed of planned and released refreshes of NetDocuments, open the article below and select Follow in the upper right. When changes are made to the article, you will receive a notification email.

Instructions to access the Beta

For each PC/device accessing the beta, follow the steps listed below. Make sure you press a Ctrl+F5 in the browser on each computer to remove any old cookies and cache as you begin to use the beta.

US Datacenter

If you use the US Datacenter at, set your Host file (located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) to include this line:   

The beta servers are US-PRWebBeta01, 02, etc. for your reference.

EU Datacentre

If you use the EU Datacentre at, set your Hosts file (located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) to include this line: 

The beta servers are UK-PRWebBeta01, 02, etc. for your reference.

AU Datacentre

If you use the AU Datacentre at, set your Hosts file (located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) to include this line:  

The beta servers are AU-PRWebBeta01, 02, etc. for your reference.


Remember: After the beta period ends (when the Update is released) you must remove the Beta host information to be able to login to the normal Service after the beta servers are removed. The beta servers are typically removed within a day or two following the release of the Update.

We recommend that you include as many testers as you feel you can manage. These testers should be individuals who use the product each day and who would recognize a defect in the product and will report the steps to reproduce it to NetDocuments. We ask testers to actively review the new features and report bugs they discover. Be aware that this is beta software, which you should be cautious with as it could crash or potentially result in data loss.

We appreciate your willingness to participate in the important beta testing process. NetDocuments reserves the right to modify the process, the timing of the beta, and determining who may participate.


URL-based Beta Testing

Some customers may find it useful to allow users the URL-based beta option. This does not require a change of the host file. Note that it does not work with any client software such as ndOffice or ndClick. If you use this URL-based method to test, you will be prompted to add the URL to your Trusted Sites list.

Depending on which datacenter you use, the following URLs access the beta with this URL method:

US datacenter - use to access the beta.

EU datacenter - use to access the beta. 

AU datacenter - use to access the beta.  

When using this method, you will not have access to any client-side software such as ndOffice or one of the EMS clients. This URL-based beta option is meant to provide access to the browser-based features available in the beta. If you use OAuth, you will not be able to use this URL method.

When using this method, you can easily test the web software associated with the new Update without going through the steps of changing the host file. General beta testers should still use the host file method to perform a complete test including client software. Even though the URL method is available, it should not be treated as the primary way to test the new Update because it does not include the ability to test the client software.
