Problem/Issue:

From time to time, ndOffice may leave a document checked out after a user saves and closes the document.

Cause:

The ndOffice add-in may have been disabled at the time of check-in. Or, another third-party add-in or process prevented ndOffice from checking it back in, resulting in edits in the Echo folder that are not saved to NetDocuments.

Or, connection or communication issues may be preventing the proper check in process from reaching the Service.

Solution:

Option 1

First, locate the document in the Activity Center. Right-click on it, then click 'Check In'. The edited document will then be uploaded from the Echo folder, and the document will be checked in.

If the document still does not check in, you must manually check it in as a new version. There are two ways to do this:

Option 2a

1) Log onto the user's machine.

2) Log in to the web UI.

3) Locate the document that is checked out.

4) From the options menu, select "Check In as New Version"

5) Browse for the local copy of the checked out document.

  1. Navigate to the user's ndOffice Echo folder (C:\Users\%username%\ND Office Echo).
  2. Navigate into the user's folder (e.g. VAULT-******** , EU-********, AU-******** )
  3. Under that is a folder called backup. Navigate into the backup folder and find the document.
  4. Select the document from the Backup folder.

6) Choose whether the new version should be the official version or not.

7) Click OK.

Option 2b

1) Log onto the user's machine.

2) Navigate to the user's ndOffice Echo folder (C:\Users\%username%\ND Office Echo).

3) Navigate into the user's folder (e.g. VAULT-******** , EU-********, AU-******** )
Under that folder, is a folder called Backup. Navigate into the Backup folder and find the document.

4) Select the document that is not checking into NetDocuments and open the document.

5) Press File and Save As to display the ndOffice Save As dialog.

6) In the ndOffice Save As dialog, select Recent Documents and the select the document. If the document does not display in the list you can select the cabinet and navigate to the workspace and/or filter or use the Go to Workspace to find the workspace. Make sure the correct document is selected.

7) After the document is selected, make sure the Save as New Version is checked.

8) Press Save.
