NdOffice sort by date modified

Our users would like to sort by date modified in NdOffice. They always want to see the last document that was worked on. But if there are to many documents and they have to load the other documents by the "more" button then the get also newer documents.

For example:

They want to open a file in Microsoft Word and the sort order is on the colomn "date modified", you see it in the screen. The first twenty documents are showed. They are showed by last modified but just for the first twenty alfabetic documents. So we see all of the documents that begin with A, B, C and further and then sort by last modified. If we load the other documents with the "more" button then we get newer documents only they begin for example with Z.

Hi Mirella:

Your wish is my command. The issue was that folders used to come to us always in name sort. Now we've enchanced both ND Web's API and ndOffice so that we retrieve folders in date modified sort.

This is the only change to 2.0 beyond the one in the version 2.0.17.7355.

The one that came out last week was 7355 but the one in the link is 7536. In 7536 it works very nice but it doesn't work in 7355. Please release the 7536....

When 17.1 was made available it came with an auto-update to ndOffice (for those who either went to the link: https://vault.netvoyage.com/neweb2/apps/ndOfficeSetup.exe or who used the autoupdate) to version 2.0.17.7355. It fixed an issue with Outlook.

However, last friday I made a new release to version 2.0.17.7536. Because it requires admin approval and it's so quick on the heals of 7355 (and it's not a bug fix) we elected not to auto-update.

I've sent a message to support reminding them that this is now the official version and they should allow people to download it via the support web site.

I do not understand why this is only available via a manual update. Why have an auto-update capability if fixes like this still require a manual update? Once a version becomes official, an auto-update should go out so Admins do not have to deal with this in a manual way.

Christopher,

I appreciate your point of view. I elected not to auto-update because this wasn't a bug fix, but a change to functionality that some customers requested and auto-update requires admin permission. Some of our customers have expressed unhappiness when we update too often and I'm trying to be sensitive to this. Perhaps I should re-consider this point in the future.

With a registry setting you can stage this internally to auto-update your users as well.

Don,

I would think that the customers that express unhappiness with frequent auto-updates would turn auto-update off, as that is an option, and they probably manually update or use another method anyway. The Admins like me that want auto-updates as often as they are available, keep it turned on, and hope it does what it is intended to do, which is automatically update without IT staff assistance.

Christopher:

We decided today that all Generally Available releases of ndOffice will be auto-updated from now on. Firms that want to opt out of this will either use the registry setting:

AutoUpdateEnabled

or

PromptForAutomaticUpdates

Setting the first one to false in HKLM\Software\NetVoyage\NetDocuments will turn off the ability to auto-update while setting the second to false will allow auto-updating, but not prompt the user.

I have staged this build on for the auto-update and I expect it will be made go live sometime early next week.

Thank you for your suggestions and willingness to help us understand your point of view. Hopefully this will work better.
