Highlighted changes for 16.2

Search Refinement

There are now even more powerful searching capabilities available from the search results page that allow users to apply metadata filters to their search results:

Learn more about Search Results Refinement

The Advanced Search page now no longer defaults to the user's most recent criteria. Instead, the most recent container will be used as the scope. The Search refinement pane is available on Search Results.  It will be added to other list views and workspace with future Updates.

A user's most recent search will be available from the Recent Searches list.

With the 16.2 Update, the various new and existing search features are utilizing the new ndSearch engine. In the 16.3 Update timeframe, we will make additional changes to the search functionality to further improve the performance.

Folder Architecture

NOTE: The new folder architecture will be released a few weeks after the 16.2 Update.  All folders will be converted as an automatic background process before these changes will be made available. No action will be required on your part to implement this when it is released.

This new architecture allows users to search within a folder.

The new folder architecture also includes an endless scroll functionality where the folder's contents are loaded as the user scrolls down the page. The first 70 items of the folder's contents are displayed automatically initially. Folders are no longer limited to 1000 documents.

Folder list views will also function similar to Search Result list views in that you can change up to 10,000 items at a time (such as a mass access change or mass profile change).

Users will be able to view and select about 320 items at a time on folder list views using the Group Options menu.

After this feature is released, all new folders created will have this new functionality. All existing folders will have been converted when the feature is made available. There are no visual differences between the old and new folders.

Document Size Limit

The size limit for a single document has been increased from 200MB to 1GB.

NOTE: When emailing copies of documents, users may still be limited by an email system's maximum attachment size.

Online Editor

Using the Open in option on the right-click menu, users will be able to edit documents using Office Online. (Note, this is not the same as OneDrive, which is currently available.)

This feature may not be enabled at the time of the 16.2 Update, since it is awaiting approval from Microsoft. It will be enabled automatically when it is approved.

This feature is now released from beta. ndOneClick is an add-on for Chrome, Firefox, or Safari that allows users to automatically check out and edit documents, similar to the ActiveX add-on for Internet Explorer. It is also supported when used with ndOffice. We do not offically support ndOneClick with the Edge browser at this point. Learn more about ndOneClick

This upcoming new product continues to be in beta. If you wish to test the beta, please contact Technical Support. This product allows users to sync one or more NetDocuments folders or workspaces to a local location. Learn more about ndSync

Lock-out Message

An email message will be sent to the user when their account is temporarily locked due to reaching the maximum number of login attempts. In addition to being notified on the login page when this occurs, the user will also be sent an email with the following text:

"Your NetDocuments account has been locked because we detected unauthorized attempts to log in to this account from [User Agent Header] at the IP address x.x.x.x.  Please contact your NetDocuments Administrator to assist with your account."

Please make sure you refresh your browser with Ctrl+F5 to clear any old cache after the Update.

See below for information about updating add-ins, such as the ActiveX and ndOffice.

Administrator Update Notes

The following information is for system administrators.

Beta Testing Information

The Beta testing period for 16.2 generally starts 3 weeks prior to the Update. See our Beta Announcement for more detailed information. As always during a beta test, issues may be found which may require us to adjust the actual release date of the Update.

ActiveX Install is Required for 16.2

An ActiveX update is REQUIRED for the 16.2 Update.

Please read our Guide for ActiveX Updates for more information.

Learn more about Installing or Updating the ActiveX

ndOffice Update

ndOffice customers only:  the next ndOffice is scheduled to be released in Fall 2016. Refer to the ndOffice Update Notes for information on the next version release schedule.

ndOffice Adobe integration - An add-in for Adobe is now available with ndOffice 1.8+.  With 16.2 you are now able to open PDF files from the web using ndOffice.

Discontinuance of older .NET software

ndOffice does not support older versions of the Microsoft .NET software. The release of ndOffice 1.8 requires .NET version 4.5.2 or newer.  We recommend all customers install the new .NET as soon as can be done, because Microsoft has discontinued the older versions of .NET as of January 2016.  See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/framework_faq

Planned Subsequent Update 16.3

For your planning purposes, the next Update for NetDocuments (Update 16.3) is planned for September 1, 2016. The 16.3 Update will NOT require an ActiveX Update. We will inform you if this schedule changes as we get closer to the date. We are providing this information to assist you as much as possible in your planning and administration of the NetDocuments Service for your organization.

All NetDocuments client software can be installed during the week prior to the release of 16.2 or can be installed after the Update to ensure that the most recent version is installed. (Any previous versions of these add-ins should be removed prior to updating them). You should install the latest version of the client software so that you have the most up-to-date and bug-free software.

Please refer to the Update and Beta Procedures article in the Announcements section for more detailed information on the update process at NetDocuments.

Please check the information below on the newest versions of other client software with this Update. We strongly recommend that you update all client software. All client software other than ndOffice should be updated no sooner than one week prior to the 16.2 Update.

As with all of our client software, we only support the latest version available. We strongly recommend that you download and install the latest version of each add-in client that you are using.

Prior versions will NOT be supported and use of them may result in errors or possibly data loss in some instances. If you experience an issue with an updated version, please contact NetDocuments Support. If you are using an older version and experience issues, please understand that changes and fixes will be provided only for the most recently released version. If you encounter problems with a previous version, you will be required to update the software to resolve the issue. If you are working with Support related to a bug, you can get information related to the bug's status from your Support Case. Because of this normal interaction with Support, we do not describe all of the bugs that have been fixed in an Update.  You can also verify a bug fix with the new Update by testing a feature to see whether an issue has been fixed or not.  For the client software, however, we do include major changes and major bug fixes to assist you when installing and implementing the new software.

For current versions of client software not listed below, please see the Download Help page. All available downloads and add-ins can be found under the Downloads and Integrations section.
