The Beta for the 16.1 Update will officially begin on January 29, 2016 at 10:00 pm Eastern (January 30, 2016, 3:00 AM London and 0300 UTC). The official release of the 16.1 Update is currently planned for February 18, 2016. The date may be adjusted based on beta feedback. For more information on the Beta process and Update process for NetDocuments refer to the Update and Beta Procedures article in the Announcements section.
We encourage users to test the beta software to ensure that it works well in your own environment including all add-ins that you may be using. As you know, our customers have a variety of environments for which we cannot test. We test the functionality of the software with a standard environment. We appreciate all of your testing and feedback.
This Update has a handful of very useful visible UI changes, however we have made a number of key changes in the underlying code to prepare for other changes coming in future Updates specifically in the area of searching, sorting, and list displays. We ask that you help us by especially doing testing in these areas during the beta period. We have tested the beta thoroughly, but we appreciate you as users helping us review the new Update.
After the beta starts, please refer to the Update Notes for more information on the changes. The Update Notes detail will be available in the What's New section of the Support portal when the beta starts. For your information, the Update Notes will be moved from the What's New section to the Previous Update Notes section at support.netdocuments.com following the Update so it is available after the Update is released.
With this beta, we are providing a gift card to the first person who reports, during the beta period, a specific bug that is new to the 16.1 Update by submitting a description of the bug to firstname.lastname@example.org. To receive the gift card, the bug has to be deemed a valid bug by the testing group and has to be sent to beta@netdocuments prior to midnight, Mountain time, the day the Update is released on February 18, 2016.
The 16.1 Update does NOT require a new ActiveX install.
ndOffice customers only: ndOffice 1.8 will be released in March 2016, independent of the 16.1 Update which will be released on February 18, 2016. Learn More
Discontinuance of older .NET software
If you are still running ndOffice version 1.5, when you upgrade you will need to be running at least .NET version 4.5.2. Learn More
We recommend all customers install the new .NET software as soon as it can be installed, because Microsoft is discontinuing the older versions of .NET as of January 2016. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/framework_faq
Secure Document Delivery
NOTE: Due to the changes that are being made to this feature in 16.1, secure document links will not be backwards compatible with 15.4. So, if you are using the 16.1 Beta when you create a secured link, it will not work for someone who is still using the current 15.4 Update.
Installing Other Client Software
You can install other new client software versions for beta testing, but for usage with the official 16.1 Update, you should install the latest version of each client software for production usage no earlier than one week prior to the release of the 16.1 Update. This ensures that you are installing the latest version for production of any client software in case changes are made during the beta period. The latest client software version numbers are available in the 16.1 Update Notes. Please double check the client software version numbers with the Update Notes prior to installing client software to ensure that you are installing the latest version.
If you participate in the Beta testing, please consult with your NetDocuments Administrator and use the information below. The Beta period allows you to provide NetDocuments' personnel feedback and gives you an opportunity to use it in your environment and get familiar with the changes.
Please make sure you do a Control F5 on your browser to remove any old cookies and cache as you begin to use the beta.
To report bugs related to the Beta, send them to email@example.com. If you have other questions as you review the Beta, please go to https://support.netdocuments.com to submit a support request providing a description of the question or issue.
Instructions to access the Beta
For each PC/device accessing the beta, please follow the steps listed below.
If you use the US Datacenter at vault.netvoyage.com, set your Host file (located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) to include this line:
220.127.116.11 vault.netvoyage.com #US beta pool
18.104.22.168 api.vault.netvoyage.com #netdocs US beta pool
The beta servers are US-PRWebBeta01, 02, etc. for your reference.
If you use the EU Datacentre at eu.netdocuments.com, set your Hosts file (located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) to include this line:
22.214.171.124 eu.netdocuments.com #EU Beta
126.96.36.199 api.eu.netdocuments.com #netdocs EU beta pool
The beta servers are UK-PRWebBeta01, 02, etc. for your reference.
If you use the AU Datacentre at au.netdocuments.com, set your Hosts file (located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) to include this line:
188.8.131.52 au.netdocuments.com #AU Beta
184.108.40.206 api.au.netdocuments.com #netdocs AU beta pool
The beta servers are AU-PRWebBeta01, 02, etc. for your reference.
Remember: After the beta you must remove the Beta host information to be able to login to the normal Service after the beta servers are removed. The beta servers are typically removed within a day or two following the release of the Update.
We recommend that you include as many testers as you feel you can manage. These testers should be individuals who use the product each day and who would recognize a defect in the product and will report the steps to recreate it to NetDocuments. We ask testers to actively review the new features and report bugs they discover. Be aware that this is beta software which should not be used in a production environment and may cause crashes or result in data loss.
We appreciate your willingness to participate in the important beta testing process. NetDocuments reserves the right to modify the process at any time and to determine who may participate.
URL-based Beta Testing
Some customers may find it useful to allow users to use the URL-based beta option. This does not require a change of the host file, but does not work with any client software. If you use this URL-based method, you will be prompted to add the URL to your Trusted Sites list.
Depending on which datacenter you are using, you would use one of the following URLs to access the beta with this URL method:
- US datacenter - use https://beta-vault.netvoyage.com to access the beta.
- EU datacenter - use https://beta-eu.netdocuments.com to access the beta.
- AU datacenter - use https://beta-au.netdocuments.com to access the beta.
When using this method, you will not have access to any client-side software such as ndOffice, the Application Integrations or EMS. This URL beta option is meant to provide access to the browser-based features available in the beta.
Using this method a user can easily test the web software associated with the new Update without going through the steps of changing the host file. General beta testers should still use the host file method to perform a complete test including the client software. Even though the URL method is available, it should not be treated as the primary way to test the new Update because it does not include the ability to test the client software.
