Below are the changes included in version 2.1:
New and Improved Email Filing Features in Outlook
The goal of ndOffice 2.1 is to achieve EMS Profiler feature parity. For us this means enhancing and altering the existing “Suggested Locations” feature. This means adding a registry setting to delete the email (to the Outlook trash) after filing and the ability to rename the email as the user files it.
We are adding all the functionality in EMS Profiler to ndOffice. Version 2.1 has come much closer to complete feature parity. Now you can easily profile to a client/matter without having to open the ndOffice dialogs. If the item isn’t in the ten locations we show by default (associated with an email address) then clicking the Select Workspace option will open a pane (not the entire dialog), your cursor will be placed in the Client field and you can begin profiling. You can also change cabinets here.
You can now rename your email before profiling:
Additionally, users can have emails removed from the inbox after profiling by using the new registry key "DeleteEmailsFromOutlook" with a value of "true" (default is false).
Another registry setting we’re introducing controls whether ndOffice remembers attributes in addition to the ones you're filing for use with Suggested Locations. The default value "DoNotRetain" will force ndOffice to behave as it does in 2.0.
The value "RetainAndShow" will remember the attributes in addition to the one you’re filing to, and when you save the dialog will briefly appear with these values in them so you can easily replace them with others if needed.
The value "SilentSave" will save the current item with whatever values were saved with an email from that person being saved to that suggested location without prompting. For the last two values, you can hover over the location to preview what values will be applied. If you select a new workspace, you will be also able to hover to see if there are values that will be applied, and click edit to add new ones.

Further, if you need to add a new workspace, or you have silent save on and you want to save to the workspace but with different attributes, the select workspace popup also has a hover tip to tell you what might have been associated with it and the ability to edit that before saving, all without displaying the dialog:
These settings will override ride any static cabinet defaults.
Now, when you select one or more locations in the dialog, clicking Save and Close will immediately queue the emails for a background save, close the dialog, and leave you in control for more work. If you click Save – instead of save and close, the items will be queued and the checkboxes cleared. In the next beta we will show a message in the dialog to let you know why your checkboxes are cleared and that your emails were queued for saving in ND. This should make working with the Outlook and the save dialog much faster.
Improved Dialog Performance – We now save emails as a background task, so you can select many emails and save via the dialog. If you press save and close, the dialog immediately goes away and the background task of saving the emails continues, leaving you free to work. If you press save rather than save and close, the checked items are queued for saving and the checkboxes are cleared for you to make other choices.
By leveraging Word's compare features, you can now compare two documents – documents in NetDocuments (separate docs or versions) and/or documents on a local file system. After comparing, you can put the result back as an attachment to the document you compared, as a version of a document, or as a new separate document (of any type).
When finished, note the “Save as Attachment” option on the review dialog.
Offline Mode – Phase 1
We’re working on improving the offline capabilities of ndOffice. In Phase 1, delivered in 2.1, we will watch to see if you lose your internet connection (or, your connection to NetDocuments) and, depending on your registry settings, alert you to the fact you’re offline and that edits will be saved to NetDocuments when the connection is restored.
Additionally, if there are errors from NetDocuments when working with a document, rather than a complete failure, we’ll show the dialog but show inline connection messages because of a connection issue, or some problem with the service. And you’ll be able to open documents from the echo, edit them, and they will be restored when you get a connection again.
We will not be able to support opening from the Activity Center until version 2.2 later this year. We will also have the ability to “hit the road” taking documents with you, and to create new documents while disconnected for later completion. Registry keys for Offline Mode include the key "OfflineModeNotification" and include the values: None, Restored, Lost, and Both. None gives no notification, Both alerts you to the loss and restoration of a connection.
Using the right-click context menu in the Activity Center and all ndOffice dialogs, you can now rename files without going to the web. You can also long click inside dialogs to enter rename.

Attach to Calendar Event
Users can now attach items to a calendar event in Outlook. This opens the standard Attach dialog, which allows the user to select one or more items to attach.
You can search for closed profile attributes (though not display the workspace yet).
ndOffice now adds links at the cursor in an Outlook message, where before they went to the top of the message. When inserting document links, linked items no longer appear at the top of the email. Instead, we insert any document links at the cursor. We also now add a row between items so you can add a description.
Administrator Update Notes
As a reminder, firms that don’t want to have ndOffice auto-updated can disable auto-updates entirely in the HKLM override for NetDocuments: HKLM\Software\Netvoyage\NetDocuments with the REG_SZ value pair:

Regardless of whether you elect to auto-update or not, you can find the generally available version at:

Also, another reminder - in the past, ndOffice versions were either installed as a “per-user” version or as an “all-user” version. ndOffice 2.0+ is only an all-user install. A user must have machine admin rights to install it. If an all-user version was installed previously, ndOffice 2.0 will automatically uninstall the previous version.
Next Planned Update
For your planning purposes, the next regular Update for ndOffice is planned for October 2017. We will inform you if this plan changes as we get closer to the date. We are providing this information to assist you as much as possible in your planning and administration of the NetDocuments Service for your organization.
If you are using a previous version and experience any issues, we recommend that this new supported version be installed to ensure the best operation of the add-in.
