We are pleased to announce that ndMirror will be available for public distribution beginning May 5, 2017. Go to ndMirror to get information about the latest version and find more information such as system requirements.

ndMirror has previously been a beta product, but is now officially released for production use. If you are using a previous version of ndMirror, please contact NetDocuments Support for instructions on updating to the latest version.

NOTE: ndMirror is designed as a replacement to the current Local Document Service, and is a paid add-on to your NetDocuments Service Subscription. Please contact NetDocuments Sales for more information. See below for more information about installation and migration from the legacy LD Service.

What is ndMirror?

ndMirror offers NetDocuments customers a complete, up-to-date copy of all their documents and document profiles (ND metadata) on a Service that they can maintain and be physically located on their premises. ndMirror will frequently communicate with the NetDocuments Service to identify documents that have been created and modified since the last communication. All such documents will be downloaded, along with their profile data to the customer’s server.

The documents are stored on the customer’s file system in their native format, along with a SQL database that contains document profile data such as document name, file format, creator and creation date, last modified user and date, the document ACL, and all other configuration attributes defined by the customer. The documents will be stored in the customer’s local file system using a scheme defined by the customer that dynamically folders the documents in a folder structure based on the documents’ profile attributes. ndMirror can also be integrated with an external searching application to provide a way of locating documents within the local storage system.

ndMirror is designed to back up data and metadata to a local server or network drive. Metadata is stored in SQL databases. Its primary purposes are for disaster recovery and to facilitate external searching. The SQL databases offer access to metadata for queries.

ndMirror does NOT provide a two-way sync between the local server and the NetDocuments Cloud Service.

Installation

ndMirror should be installed by a new customer/firm, rather than the legacy LD Service. Customers who are currently using the Local Document Service should make plans to migrate to ndMirror in the near future; however, for larger existing customers/firms, we do not recommend using ndMirror immediately until additional migration tools and features can be included in a future version of ndMirror. We recommend you at least download ndMirror for use in a test environment in preparation for a migration.
