ndSync Update - March 2017 - All Data Centers

We are pleased to announce that ndSync version 2.0 will be available for public distribution beginning March 15, 2017. Go to ndSync to download the latest version and find more information such as system requirements.

NOTE: ndSync for Windows is available now. ndSync for Mac will be released in the following week.

ndSync has previously been a beta product, but is now officially released for production use. If you are using a previous version of ndSync, please contact your administrator for instructions on updating to the latest version.

ndSync must first be enabled by a repository administrator before end-users will be able to use ndSync. Learn how to enable ndSync.

What is ndSync?

ndSync is an enterprise-grade file synchronization service available across multiple devices.

ndSync enables individuals to map matter-content, folders, and documents within NetDocuments to a Windows PC/tablet or Mac. This Dropbox-like functionality provides two-way synchronization for content being shared with others within the firm and the ability to work on documents offline and even check-out documents, preventing others from making changes.

Additionally, NetDocuments has implemented administrative controls for ndSync, allowing firm administrators to turn the feature on or off for all users, remove individual devices, and perform application remote wiping in the case of stolen or lost devices. ndSync combines the power and simplicity of consumer applications like Dropbox with NetDocuments’ robust security, compliance and enterprise DMS platform.

What can ndSync do for me?

Watch the video below to see how ndSync can streamline and empower your document work across devices:

How ndSync Works

Sync Folders and Workspaces

To sync a folder (or a workspace or filter), go to Options > Sync Folder:

This will "pull down" the folder's contents to the local sync location, on devices where you have ndSync installed.

You can do the same for a workspace or workspace filter.

Syncing a workspace will include the workspace's folders and filters - up to 1000 items in each container.

The web UI has an icon indicating that the workspace is synced:

The same can be done for folders and workspaces from the local Sync Agent:

This will "pull down" the folder's contents to the local sync location, on devices where you have ndSync installed.

When any changes are made to the local documents or when new documents are added, they will be saved to the online location.

Recent Documents

Clicking View Recent Documents will show a list of your recent documents, with synced documents designated with a blue check mark. Documents that have not been synced are marked with a red icon.

Document Options

Document-level options are available in ndSync from the right-click menu:

Go to document in folder online - This will open the web UI and take the user to the folder where the document resides.

Get link - This will copy the Document URL to the Windows clipboard for easy access.

View document online - This will open the web UI and take the user to the document.

Sync now - This will initiate a sync, where any changes that have been made locally will be synced to NetDocuments, and any changes made online will be pushed to the device.

Check out - This will mark the document as Checked Out.

Permanently Delete - Access rights are respected. If a user cannot delete a document in NetDocuments, then they will not be able to delete that document through ndSync. In addition to deleting the document in NetDocuments, this option will also permanently delete it locally, meaning it can not be recovered from the Recycle Bin.

NOTE: Deleting a document from ndSync will delete the document in NetDocuments. If you wish to remove documents from ndSync without deleting them, simply unsync the folder or workspace.

Administrator Update Notes

ndSync can be installed using either an .exe "bootstrapper" or the regular .msi. The .exe version will detect the version of windows (32- or 62-bit) and then installs the correct version of the .msi, on a manual install.

System administrators can configure ndSync for all network users using registry keys.

See our Software Installation Guide for more information.

ndSync must also be enabled at the repository level. Learn about managing ndSync.
